Atalanta right-back Timothy Castagne has hinted at a possible transfer to the Premier League, and to Tottenham Hotspur. This is according to an interview with La Derniere Heure.

REPORT: Timothy Castagne ‘Can’t Say No’ to Tottenham Hotspur or Paris Saint-Germain

Hard to Turn Down Big Clubs

In the interview, Castagne spoke of his intention to move on. Nevertheless, he certainly did not signal an intention to jump ship at all costs.

“I think the time has come to move on, but I won’t be disappointed if I stay in Bergamo [at current club Atalanta].” (Translated from the French as per football.london).

He suggests that he wants to move on. He then signified what kinds of clubs he’d find hard to turn away.

“You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can’t say ‘no’.”

Thus, nothing here necessarily proves that either team have been actively pursuing the player. But, it does perhaps suggest that Castagne would find it hard to turn down a big offer from clubs of this calibre.

Spurs’ Right-Back Berth

Tottenham currently deploy Serge Aurier at right-back. His performances are often inconsistent. He doesn’t really have any competition for his position. For example, Kyle Walker-Peters is the only other senior right-back at the club, but he’s out on loan to Southampton. Juan Foyth and Eric Dier could fit in at right-back, but neither are currently being used there.

Thus, it would be logical for the club to add another right-back to the squad in the summer. Castagne could be a good target. He is relatively young, with experience in the Belgian Pro League with Genk, but also in Serie A with Atalanta. Furthermore, he has seven Belgian national team caps.

Other clubs have looked at Castagne in the past, including Leicester City.
