Tottenham are set to sign experienced goalkeeper Joe Hart, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 33-year-old was released by Burnley earlier this summer after the expiry of his contract.

Experienced Third Choice?

Hart is not likely to be challenging Hugo Lloris for the number one spot at Tottenham. However, he will add a wealth of experience to the Spurs squad.

It is likely that Jose Mourinho will continue with Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga as his first port of call. Tottenham are lacking an experienced third choice goalkeeper, following the departure of Michel Vorm.

An experienced third choice goalkeeper has become a regular occurrence among the top six clubs. Chelsea recently had Mark Schwarzer and Rob Green among their ranks, while Lee Grant also held a similar role at Manchester United. A move to Tottenham for Hart would appear to be in similar stature.

Furthermore, the 33-year-old will also count towards the home-grown quota of players.

Recent Career

Since leaving Manchester City in 2016, Hart’s career has seen a downwards turn.

He initially joined Torino on a season-long loan after leaving the Etihad Stadium. However, several mistakes saw him endure a miserable spell. Hart conceded 62 goals in 36 appearances with the Italian club, and was not signed on a permanent basis.

The 33-year-old’s career then took him to West Ham United, again on a season-long loan. He began the season as the first-choice goalkeeper, but a poor run of form saw him return to the bench.

Hart then joined Burnley, and initially started as Sean Dyche’s number one following an injury to Nick Pope.

However, after he returned from injury, Pope took the number one spot away from Hart, and has remained the undisputed first-choice ever since. Subsequently, Hart only made three appearances for Burnley last season, conceding seven goals.
