Manchester United host an Old Trafford return for Jose Mourinho as Tottenham Hotspur look to finish this week on a high. Wins in the Europa League and Carabao Cup mean Tottenham have had a good week on the pitch. Off the pitch, the addition of new striker Carlos Vinicius – on loan from Benfica – will be a boost, but the Brazilian won’t be available for the trip to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho Returns to Face Manchester United

Trophies Delivered During United Tenure

Despite being sacked at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho did have success. He guided the club to a second-place finish in the Premier League as well as winning the Carabao Cup and Europa League. Mourinho had a tense relationship with Paul Pogba, and the style of football didn’t always sit well with fans. He still delivered two trophies for the club. Now he is on the trail of trophies with Tottenham Hotspur. A penalty shoot-out win over Chelsea on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup was quickly followed the 7-2 drubbing of Israeli team Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League.

Rotation

From the draw against Newcastle United, Jose Mourinho made nine changes to the team that faced Chelsea. Another nine changes followed for the Europa League tie on Thursday. Mourinho has made good use of his squad and has started to build competition for places. Further rotation is likely for the match against Manchester United.

Team News

Paul Pogba is still out for Manchester United but Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are back in contention for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Son Heung-Min has recovered from a minor hamstring injury and could start for Tottenham Hotspur. Eric Dier is likely to return alongside Toby Alderweireld after being rested against Maccabi Haifa. Sergio Reguilon will be hoping for his Premier League debut and all eyes will be on whether Dele Alli makes the squad.
